Netflix’s Live-Action ONE PIECE Finds Its Cast

Rejoice fellow Straw Hats, Netflix’s One Piece live-action adaptation has found its core cast. Previously, Netflix shared that it was partnering with Tomorrow Studios and Shueisha to bring to life one of the best-selling manga ever. And now, this pirate adventure has found its core live-action cast in Iñaki Godoy, Mackenyu, Emily Rudd, Jacob Romero Gibson, and Taz Skylar. Additionally,  Netflix has announced the casting of other One Piece friends and foes.

Here’s how the One Piece live-action casting breaks down. Firstly, Iñaki Godoy (he/him) will play Monkey D. Luffy.

Next, Mackenyu (he/him) will play Roronoa Zoro.

Additionally, Emily Rudd (she/her) will play Nami.

Jacob Romero Gibson (he/him) will play Usopp.

And Taz Skylar (he/him) will play Sanji.

One Piece‘s Shanks Casting

Recently, Peter Gadiot joined the One Piece live-action cast as Shanks. Shanks is a “legendary and powerful pirate in the Grand Line” and Monkey D. Luffy’s childhood idol. So we feel there are great things in store for Gadiot. Here’s what he had to say about the show.

Other Members of One Piece‘s Cast

Additionally, six more actors will round out the One Piece cast.

In a release Netflix shared the following information:

Morgan Davies (they/them) will play Koby.

Ilia Isorelýs Paulino (she/her) will play Alvida.

Aidan Scott (he/him) will play Helmeppo.

Jeff Ward (he/him) will play Buggy.

McKinley Belcher III (he/him) will play Arlong.

Vincent Regan (he/him) will play Garp.

From the sound of things, some of these new characters will cause trouble for our favorite Straw Hat pirates. Additionally, this casting seem to reveal Netflix is setting sail towards One Piece‘s Romance Dawn arc.

More about One Piece

In a release, Eiichiro Oda, the author of the manga series and executive producer of the show excitably shared more about the show. He wrote:

We’ve been working with Netflix and Tomorrow Studios on the massive project that is the Hollywood live action series adaptation of ONE PIECE! How many years has it been since it was announced, right? I know, I know! But rest assured we’ve been making steady progress all along! It’s not easy when you’re working with people from different cultures! But it’s precisely that process that can yield something special! For now, we’re able to announce the main cast! Rather, we need to hurry and announce it or else it’ll be leaked, apparently! Hilarious, lol.

Their face, the size of their mouths and hands, their aura, the way they carry themselves, their voice, their acting skills, their height, the balance amongst the Straw Hat Crew, etc…! We decided on this cast after numerous discussions involving people around the world! These are the people who will be our Straw Hat Pirates! It’ll take a bit more time to get this show done, but we’ll continue to do our best to deliver a show that we’re confident will be enjoyed by everyone around the world! Look forward to more updates in the future!

Oda even created special shirts for the equally excited, newly minted cast. And with all this excitement, we can’t help but be excited ourselves.

Showrunner, writer, and executive producer Steven Maeda and writer and executive Producer Matt Owen also added,

Finding the right people to pull off the looks, emotions, and actions of the iconic Straw Hats was a long and challenging (and fun!) process. Much like the search for the One Piece itself. But we have finally found the perfect fits! They have already begun working very hard to bring these characters to life. You will come to know and love them just as much as their manga counterparts. All of us can’t wait to show you what we’ve come up with! Onward to adventure!

We can’t wait to join the Straw Hats and see how this tale of the high seas unfolds. Ahoy, live-action One Piece.
