Streaming adaptations of video games are definitely in vogue. From the upcoming Halo TV show to a live-action Resident Evil series, gamers can expect a lot of great content for some of their favorite franchises. But now, Netflix is going old school. In fact, Netflix heads right for the arcade with a new animated Tekken series, Tekken: Bloodline. And we won’t have to wait long for this recently announced show. In Tekken: Bloodline‘s teaser trailer, we get some release information and an in-depth look at the gaming show.
The official synopsis reads:
“Power is everything.” Jin Kazama learned the family self-defense arts, Kazama-Style Traditional Martial Arts, from his mother at an early age. Even so, he was powerless when a monstrous evil suddenly appeared, destroying everything dear to him, changing his life forever. Angry at himself for being unable to stop it, Jin vowed revenge and sought absolute power to exact it. His quest will lead to the ultimate battle on a global stage — The King of Iron Fist Tournament.
In the trailer, we see demons, bullies, a dark hero, and, of course, fighting. This series seems to draw deeply from its video game roots. Jin Kazama, is, of course, one of the Tekken games’ main characters. And it seems his origin story will remain true to the one the video games tell. In the games, Jin often takes the role of the hero. Although, we should note, in Tekken 6, he gets corrupted by the evil around him and becomes something of a villain in the story. It will be interesting to see what trajectory the Netflix series plots for Jin, should the series continue to unfold.
Netflix hasn’t yet provided an exact release date for Tekken: Bloodline, but they note the series will release in 2022. This means we can expect it sooner rather than later. In the meanwhile, you can find us at the arcade as we get ready to greet this new Tekken show.
