The Kids in the Hall Shared the Key to their Longevity on Fallon

The Kids in the Hall are officially back. The great, goofy minds behind Head Crusher, Dr. Seuss Bible, and so many more just made another season of their beloved sketch comedy series, after 26 years off the air. While Kids in the Hall ran for five years in the late ’80s through the mid-’90s, the Canadian sketch comedy group—comprised of Dave Foley, Kevin McDonald, Bruce McCulloch, Mark McKinney and Scott Thompson—has been together for nearly 40 years. To promote the revival, The Kids in the Hall (a continuation of the original series), the quintet visited The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. During their chat, they discussed the group’s origin story, the key to their longevity, and their show’s highly-anticipated new season.

Naturally, the whole thing is an utter delight.

We think 30 Helens would agree that the Kids in the Hall were sorely missed.

It’s always fun to hear how iconic groups formed. And for the Kids in the Hall, it was as simple as the merging of two comedy duos. In the early ’80s McCulloch and McKinney were part of the Audience comedy group out of Calgary. Meanwhile, Foley and McDonald were already going by the Kids in the Hall in Toronto. Thompson later joined the quartet in the mid-’80s, to complete the group. Although as he tells it, what started as a silly attempt to (lovingly) ruin a bit turned into a match made in heaven. Eventually the Kids in the Hall performed for legendary comedy producer Lorne Michaels and a TV show was born.

As with everyone in Michaels’ comedy orbit, the Kids in the Hall and Fallon even joked about the comedy producer’s infamous poker face. And McKinney showed off a pretty impressive Lorne Michaels impression. The whole chat had us even more excited that the group is back together for this new series.

The new season consists of eight episodes and boasts a whole lot of exciting guest stars. Guest stars include Catherine O’Hara, Kenan Thompson, Will Forte, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Mark Hamill, to name a few.

The Kids in the Hall debuts on Prime Video on May 13.
