We’ve all been there, wishing we could just stay in bed instead of going about our everyday lives. But there’s no other option, we have to get up eventually. One inventive man in Taiwan rejected that premise and decided that maybe he never has to leave his bed. Zhu Jianqiang engineered a drivable bed and shows it off in the videos below. It’s operated by a joystick, including the adjustable head area. The bed even has a canopy to protect from sun or rain. It is large enough for two people, or the inventor and his three dogs.
According to the video on NowThis News, which we came across on Technabob, the build only took him about a week and $150 in parts. The battery is big enough to drive 30 miles per charge. The brakes are strong enough to control the “vehicle” on downhill terrain. He takes it on fishing excursions, driving the bed through town and down a trail before setting up for an idyllic day. It looks like a pretty good life.
Other builds by the inventor are featured on his YouTube channel and even more on his Bilibili page, a similar social media site. They include lots of other creative conveyances, including some designed for his dogs of course. They’re all in Mandarin, but his inventiveness comes through. And his three happy dogs and one disapproving cat make plenty of appearances. And even give him feedback along the way.
We’ve seen plenty of other themed beds over the years. Of course, there’s the coveted race car beds, though now you could also have a drone bed or an X-wing bed. Or even a human-sized dog bed. But this drivable bed is in a class of its own.
