For those of you who like your love stories with a side of buckets of blood, this one’s for you. AMC’s television adaptation of Anne Rice’s Interview With the Vampire arrives soon. We’ve seen teases for the series, but this trailer shows a more complete picture of what’s to come. Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson) talks to reporter Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian) about his history with one Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid). The latest Interview with the Vampire trailer showcases Louis and Lestat’s sweeping, incredibly fraught love story.
The adaptation definitely changes some character ages from Rice’s 1976 novel, but the spirit comes through in the central relationship. The beauty and danger of Louis and Lestat’s meeting and evolution jump off the screen. And the use of “Nature Boy” in the trailer only emphasizes that this is Louis’ story. It’s about Lestat, how Louis learns to become a vampire, how Louis hates himself for being a vampire. You get the drift. There’s so much angst ahead.
And of course, when they bring the young Claudia into the picture, things get more complicated. The presence of a child changes the dynamic—doubly so when the child is also a bloodthirsty, impulsive vampire.
The official Interview With the Vampire synopsis is as follows:
A sensuous, contemporary reinvention of Anne Rice’s revolutionary gothic novel, Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire follows Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson), Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid) and Claudia’s (Bailey Bass) epic story of love, blood, and the perils of immortality, as told to journalist Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian). Chafing at the limitations of life as a Black man in 1900s New Orleans, Louis finds it impossible to resist the rakish Lestat de Lioncourt’s offer of the ultimate escape: joining him as his vampire companion. But Louis’s intoxicating new powers come with a violent price, and the introduction of Lestat’s newest fledgling, the child vampire Claudia, soon sets them on a decades-long path of revenge and atonement.
Interview With the Vampire premieres on AMC and AMC+ on October 2.
