Original STAR WARS: THE PHANTOM MENACE Trailer Remastered for 25th Anniversary

On May 19, 2024 Star Wars: The Phantom Menace turned 25. If that makes you feel like you’re actually a 900-year-old little green alien, we feel the same. But don’t lament that you were young a long time ago. Instead, celebrate that momentous occasion by watching a fully remastered 4K version of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace original trailer. Lucasfilm honored the prequel trilogy’s first film by giving its historic first promo a fancy upgrade.

With The Phantom Menace back in theaters for its big anniversary, Lucasfilm decided to also upscale the Star Wars movie’s first trailer. On Twitter/X, Star Wars‘ LeAndre Thomas offered insight into how that was done. Lucasfilm scanned the original trailer’s original 35 mm negative. That trailer negative actually predates the movie even being called Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace.

This fun fact that proves that even after 25 years we still have more to learn about the movie. And learning keeps you young even when you don’t feel that way.
