Somehow, Minecraft has been around for well over a decade after officially releasing in 2011 following its 2009 alpha debut. That blocky crafting game has delighted a couple of generations of players who love to build their worlds and go to battle against zombies. Speaking of fighting, the game has kept its tiered and craftable weapon choices pretty simple despite many, many updates. You’d use an ax or sword for your fighting. Now, Minecraft is adding another tiered weapon, a spear, to its arsenal for the first time since its release.
This big news came during a recent Minecraft Live presentation and the spear will debut in the Mounts of Mayhem update. Sure, there have been other weapons in general like the hoe and the trident, but this Minecraft spear is a craftable and tiered one. You’ll be able to make wood, iron, gold, and all other sorts of spears.
Of course, the rarer the material you use, the longer your weapon will last and the greater damage you’ll be able to do. But, to make things interesting, zombies can also use spears, too. That sounds like a good time. This update is now available, so build your spear and journey on.
