WAKE UP DEAD MAN: A KNIVES OUT MYSTERY Trailer Is Pure Gothic Perfection

Knives Out fans, it is our time once again to solve a murder mystery alongside Benoit Blanc. The third film in Rian Johnson’s franchise, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, just dropped its first teaser trailer and it is certainly different from the previous installments. While there is still that signature humor and a stellar cast of good-looking yet suspicious people, Wake Up Dead Man boasts a Gothic vibe and sets up a really dark story.

In this film, a young priest named Jud Duplenticy (Josh O’Connor) is assisting Monsignor Jefferson Wicks (Josh Brolin), a charismatic holy man leading a church that has some issues. Wicks’ flock of church folks includes devout church lady Martha Delacroix (Glenn Close), circumspect groundskeeper Samson Holt (Thomas Haden Church), tightly-wound lawyer Vera Draven, Esq. (Kerry Washington), aspiring politician Cy Draven (Daryl McCormack), town doctor Nat Sharp (Jeremy Renner), best-selling author Lee Ross (Andrew Scott), and concert cellist Simone Vivane (Cailee Spaeny). Now that’s quite the collection of people sitting in the pews.

After a sermon, Wicks goes into a stone encased room alone. Less than one minute later, he’s dead and someone clearly isn’t as good as God would want them to be. The local police chief Geraldine Scott (Mila Kunis) brings Blanc to the scene to help find the murderer.
