It’s been 14 years since the first Avengers movie took the world by storm. And Chris Evans doesn’t want you to forget it. And thanks to the 2026 Oscars, which featured a plethora of fun moments, we sure won’t. Iron Man and former Captain America, that is, Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans, reunited to present the Oscars for Best Original and Best Adapted Screenplays. But, along the way, they brought back all the banter of Tony Stark and Steve Rogers… and even brought Gambit into the mix?… And his sparkly thong? We support this strange fanfiction writing itself out before us. Who would have thought we’d get Stony crumbs in this, our year of the lord 2026? Except that RDJ’s suit was telling a different story. Oh yes. Although we’d very much like Iron Man and Steve Rogers back together again, it looks like RDJ is all Doctor Doom now… Take a look at all the shenanigans below.
Chris Evans got Robert Downey Jr. a nice gift to celebrate their anniversary… That is Captain America and Iron Man’s anniversary. But RDJ did not really remember to get anything for his partner in crime. Good thing Channing Tatum, who also features in the MCU as Gambit, was in the audience to lend a helping hand… or at least a thong that we feel Chris Evans legally has to wear now. Hey, blame RDJ!
More interesting was Robert Downey Jr.’s suit color, which gave Doctor Doom through and through. It looks like Iron Man and Captain America won’t really be having a reunion after all. RDJ is now up to no good as a villain. And while Chris Evans WILL return as Steve Rogers in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, it won’t be as Captain America. That title belongs to Sam Wilson now, and he wears it well.
Still, we were thrilled to look back at the good old days of Captain America and Iron Man at the Oscars, with Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. standing side by side, insulting one another, and generally seeming like an old married couple. We can’t wait to see what the Avengers: Doomsday press tour has in store for us after this.
