An icon is returning. In this case we mean that both literally and figuratively. Will Ferrell is returning to the world of sports comedy. This time he’s hitting the links as golf “legend “Lonnie Hawkins. And the first teasers (yes, teasers plural) for Netflix’s comedy series The Hawk is everything you’d want and expect from the comedian’s next great sports character.
Netflix’s first look at The Hawk features three teasers that introduce The Hawk, a famous golfer who apparently suffered one of the biggest choke jobs in history. But now he’s back, and he’s ready to compete in front of his loyal fans once again.
Here’s what else the streamer’s Tudum revealed about his comeback story:
Lonnie’s return to the world stage comes more than two decades after his seminal 2004 season. He’s bringing along his entire entourage: son Lance, a pro golfer in his own right; estranged wife Stacy; Lance’s fiancée, social-media influencer Natalie; and new caddie Sam. Of course, there are still old rivals left to vanquish: Golden Fisk, the pro golfer who’s beaten Lonnie twice; PGA TOUR board member Anton; even Stacy’s new beau, Radford. No one ever said this would be easy.
The show also stars Molly Shannon as The Hawk’s estranged wife. Jimmy Tatro plays his son. Fortune Feimster will be on Lonnie’s bag as his caddie. Luke Wilson will play his foil Fisk. Chris Parnell stars as Anton, Katelyn Tarver will run Hawk’s socials. David Hornsby is Radford. And joining them are Gabriel Hogan and Aida Osman.
While Ferrell has a long list of sports movies under his belt, the show will mark his* first sports television show with him as the star. (&Respect to Eastbound and Down.) Will more time mean more laughs on the course? We’ll find out when The Hawk debuts at Netflix this summer.
