We’re always ready to go back to the ’90s! For one thing, the fashion was great (sarcasm) and the music was incredible (not sarcasm). Also, generally things just felt better. I grew up in the ’90s, so maybe I’m looking through Not-On-the-Brink-of-End-Times-colored glasses. But, even back then, people had to worry about Apocalypse. Specifically, En-Sabah-Nur, the ancient mutant who will be the main villain of the long-awaited X-Men ’97 season two. With our characters scattered across time, it’s up to Bishop to bring everyone back…to the ’90s. Check out the epic trailer for the new season below.
The trailer opens with Rogue lamenting the loss of Gambit in season one. She, along with Xavier, Magneto, Beast, and Nightcrawler ended up in Ancient Egypt, at the start of Apocalypse’s reign. The Summers clan, Scott, Jean, son Nathan (Cable), and daughter Rachel are in the far-future, when Apocalypse ruled all. It’s up to Bishop and Forge to bring everyone back to the ’90s. X-Force and X-Factor are already there, but they’ll need the O.G.s if they’re going to beat the most fearsome mutant ever.
Other characters we see include members of the Acolytes, plus Exodus and Danger, the robot version of the Danger Room itself. The final big team-up shot shows all of our heroes together and it looks cool as hell. I’m especially excited that Havoc, Polaris, Archangel, Psylocke, and Strong Guy will feature heavily this season. Love those weirdos.
We cannot wait to see what amazing action and high-drama lies ahead for the Merry Mutants. And we don’t have that long! X-Men ’97 season two will premiere on Disney+ July 1, 2026.
