Get ready for more jazz hands and catchy tunes on your TV screen. After months of Ryan Murphy discussing the possibility of Glee returning in a reboot series, it is finally official. The new show will be on Disney+ and Hulu. Murphy has a pilot completed and mentioned that he reached out to previous cast members, but that’s all the details that we have for now.

The original Glee series ran for six seasons from 2009 to 2015 and gained an audience with younger Millennials and some older Gen Z kiddos, too. It followed a group of show choir members from Lima, Ohio as they dealt with all the drama that comes with high school. Issues like sex, racial disparity, and mental health were interspersed with incredibly popular covers of popular songs. Renewed interest hit the show once again following the untimely passing of star Naya Rivera in 2020.
Nerdist’s Take: Shows Like Glee Are Needed for Today’s Kids
I am a Millennial but I fall in the middle of the spectrum as a late 1980s baby. So, the year that Glee came out, I graduated college and welcomed my first kid into the world. I was aware of its existence because I am tuned into pop culture, obviously, but I didn’t watch it consistently. But, I do feel like there’s not enough teen drama/comedy shows for kids these days, particularly younger Gen-Z and Gen Alpha. We had so much to choose from growing up, with lots of sitcoms and dramas geared towards families.
They need shows that both provide humor that connects with them and also broaches tough subjects with characters that they can relate to. It was why I was happy to see A Different World reboot return and inspire a new generation of kids. Also, music rules and we shouldn’t forget that creative art is valuable. Hopefully, Disney+ actually gives the show more than one season to find its audience.
