Netflix Renews AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER for Seasons 2 and 3, Announces Final Live-Action Chapters

Following in the footsteps of its cartoon predecessor, the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender will be three seasons long. Netflix has officially announced that Avatar: The Last Airbender has been renewed for season two and season three on its platform. However, season three will mark the final season of the series. That’s exciting news for fans of the live-action Avatar, who will get to see this version of the story come to a complete place.

These days, it’s rare for shows to get much more than three seasons, let alone be guaranteed to finish their journeys. So we’re celebrating this rare double-season renewal for Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender. The renewal news also makes a lot of logistical sense for the live-action version of the Avatar series. This way, we assume, Netflix can film seasons two and three of the Avatar show back to back and not have to worry as much about the real-life time passing for their cast, who mostly inhabit young roles. Good thinking, Netflix! We can’t wait to see what’s in store.

A release from Netflix shares, “The live-action reimagining of the beloved animated series will return with a second and third season to conclude the epic story as the four nations unite – Water. Earth. Fire. Air. – to bring The Legend of Aang to its proper conclusion.” While this means we won’t see any Book Four: Air shenanigans come to life, something about the wording makes us wonder if we might see a live-action The Legend of Korra up next from Netflix. But we guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens with Avatar seasons two and three.

We’ll be curious to see how the show develops in its final two seasons and with the confidence of a certain season three. Hopefully, this large-scale renewal allows the Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action series to continue to make the story its own as it also brings in familiar ideas. We definitely look forward to some of our favorite parts from the cartoon’s Book Two: Earth and Book Three: Air coming to life. Toph, Zuko’s various struggles with good and evil, the epic showdowns at the end of the story, and more—it’s all happening. For now, we can celebrate by rewatching both the Avatar cartoon and the first season of the Netflix version.

Happy renewal, Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action fans!
