Divination witch Lilia Calderu’s sacrifice in Agatha All Along‘s seventh episode was one of 2024’s best pop culture moments. It was a moving and powerful farewell to the coven’s heart and soul. It was also a goodbye worthy of a legend like Patti LuPone. And this is one death that should stick. Don’t expect Lilia to return the way most deceased characters do in superhero stories. LuPone said Agatha All Along showrunner Jac Schaffer told her the Disney+ series won’t be getting a second season, just as her previous show WandaVision didn’t. That’s right, there will not be an Agatha All Along season two, at least according to LuPone.
Only, Schaffer’s cited reason is why we think she’s not done with her MCU witches just yet.
LuPone provided some MCU news when she appeared on Andy Cohen’s Sirius XM podcast “Andy Cohen Live.” (An interview we first heard about at The Wrap.) LuPone told the Bravo host and executive about when she learned Lilia would not survive the Witches’ Road. She said Schaffer came to her to trailer to inform her Lilia was going to die. When LuPone protested because she wanted to be a part of Agatha All Along season two, Schaffer said there won’t be one.
According to LuPone, Schaffer said, “I don’t do second seasons.” The showrunner also told the Broadway legend that Marvel Studios wanted her to do another season of WandaVision, but she passed because “there’s too much to write.” So once again, that’s a no on season two of Agatha All Along and a no on season two of WandaVision—is there any good news?
We say, don’t fret about not getting more Agatha All Along. Everyone should actually be optimistic about this, considering what happened after WandaVision. Because even if the Agatha All Along doesn’t get a second season, Schaffer might not be done telling her witchy MCU story. Agatha All Along served as a unique TV sequel to WandaVision. And like its predecessor it ended with more story to tell. Ghost Agatha went off with Billy to find his missing brother. Our bet is that Schaffer will be back with an entirely new, connected show that serves as a sequel to her sequel. It would work like a film trilogy for TV.
Maybe she’ll call it Wiccan, and it will complete her Harkness Trilogy. And maybe, just maybe, LuPone will get a chance to return even if it’s not for Agatha All Along season two. This is still a superhero franchise, after all. Plus, in the MCU Death herself is a witch. She can probably pull some strings for an acting legend who wanted another season of playing Lilia Calderu.
