Disney’s STAR WARS Hotel Is Heading From Outer Space Into Office Space

Disney’s space adventure-themed hotel, Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, is gone for good. Yes, the incredibly expensive immersive hotel that was open for less than two years is not reopening. Do not keep your hopes up for a new attraction or restaurant, as the building is inaccessible to guests. In fact, the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will turn into office spaces for Disney, as reported by TheWrap.

This is surprising news considering the amount of money Disney reportedly spent on the hotel, with estimates ranging from $350 million from the Wall Street Journal to $1 billion from an ex-Imagineer. Where Disney went wrong was expecting Star Wars superfans to give away their savings for a stay at this hotel. (Nerdist got to review the Galactic Starcruiser before its official opening.)

For only two guests for two nights, the price began at $4,802. For a family of four, it started at $5,999. Safe to say the prices were astronomical, all the way in outer space even… Anyway, jokes aside, Disney’s Imagineers are going to convert the building into offices for their research and development work on the company’s theme parks, hotels, and cruise lines.

The hotel opened in March of 2022 and quickly shut down in September 2023. Despite Disney trying not to draw attention to its closing, in May 2024 YouTuber Jenny Nicholson uploaded a four-hour video that went viral, amassing over 11 million views.

Sources near Disney said the repurposed building would be the central workspace for new Disney projects. These include the new Cars and Disney Villain-themed lands in Magic Kingdom and Monsters, Inc. land in Hollywood Studios, complete with a door chase coaster. However, to make room for the coaster, Muppet*Vision 3D had to close. I, for one, will be devastated that one of the only respites from long-standing attraction lines will be gone.

It will be years till these projects come to fruition, so fans shouldn’t expect the area to amount to much more than corporate desks in the immediate future.
