Kevin Feige Said He’s ‘Never Been Satisfied’ With an MCU Movie

Since Iron Man’s successful release in 2008 and to this day, Kevin Feige has been THE man at Marvel Studios as its President. The famed Chief Creative Officer has taken the MCU to new heights over nearly two decades, turning these films into a multibillion dollar business. Nerd films are now very much so mainstream, thanks to Feige’s successful slate. And, while every MCU project isn’t beloved, there are some truly stellar films like Black Panther and Avengers: Endgame. However, despite all of the accolades, success, and adoring fans, Feige recently told The Hollywood Reporter that he’s never been quite satisfied with any MCU film’s script.

Yes, that’s a very wild thing to say. As many of us know, Marvel scripts tend to be mostly in flux with rewrites and new evolutions happening quite often during filming. There’s often a lot of post-production work that goes into the films, too. Feige said that he does like to have a full script when going into filming but hasn’t been satisfied with any script for an MCU film. “I’ve never been satisfied with a movie we’ve released,” he said additionally. Now, this doesn’t mean that he hates any specific movie(s). But perhaps he is the type of leader who is always seeking room for improvement.

What Feige likes to do with the scripts is “plus-ing.” Here’s how he described this term using Doomsday as an example: “There’s plus-ing happening every day on the Avengers: Doomsday set right now, and it is amazing to watch because what those filmmakers, those actors, both the ones that are playing these characters for the first or second time and the one playing them for the 10th or 12th time, are the best in the world at it, and know these characters so well. So if they have an idea, you want to listen to it and you want to adjust to it and you want to improve it. I wouldn’t want to change that.”

Well, there’s that. Feige did also admit that his contract with Marvel is up in two years, maybe a little less. So that takes him through the release of Secret Wars in 2027. Maybe these final scripts will fully get his 100% stamp of approval.
