IT: WELCOME TO DERRY Trailer: Stephen King Easter Eggs, Pennywise, and Bloody Screams Galore

IT: Welcome to Derry is set to drum up scares on our TV screens soon. The HBO Max series will bring back Pennywise in a prequel story that takes us deep into Derry’s early and darkest secrets. So far, we’ve gotten only morsels of the meal it plans to offer us… until now. The full trailer for IT: Welcome to Derry is here and it’s full of mystery and connections to other aspects of the Stephen King universe.

In the clip, we are in 1962 Derry, where the Hanlon family has just moved to town. It’s not necessarily smooth sailing for these military folks considering they are Black and Derry is very, very white. But the horrors of racism are only one of the problems they will face.

We come to understand that the town has a terrible history of unsolved crimes, mainly a string of missing kids. A group of kids suspect that the kids are held captive underground in the sewers. At least, those who aren’t confirmed deaths. And they would be right because Pennywise is down there with that lil red balloon.

The IT: Welcome to Derry trailer gives us a couple of Stephen King Easter eggs. There’s the obvious inclusion of a young Dick Hallorann, whom we all remember as telepathic chef from The Shining. There’s also a glimpse of a bus heading to Shawshank prison, which is from the classic film The Shawshank Redemption. We love to see it.

What Is the Release Date for IT: Welcome to Derry

This series will hit HBO Max just in time for Halloween on October 26.
