CRITICAL ROLE CAMPAIGN 4: Every New Character & Their Actor

Critical Role‘s Campaign 4 is officially here. The fourth core chapter of the beloved TTRPG actual play series has arrived, and this time, it’s helmed by Brennan Lee Mulligan—yes, for the first time in 10 years, Matt Mercer won’t be the game’s Game Master; he’ll be in the player’s seat. Of course, he’s not the only one. Critical Role recently revealed an all-star cast of season D&D players who would be taking a seat at Campaign 4‘s table. But who they would play remained a secret… Until now. Critical Role Campaign 4 has officially kicked off, which means we now know a whole lot more about the 13 characters played by its cast members/players. We have character names, races, appearances, ability stats, and more to share. Let’s take a look at all the new adventurers we meet in Aramán.

CRITICAL ROLE CAMPAIGN 4: Every New Character & Their Actor_1

Every New Character From Critical Role Campaign 4: Their Name, Their Grouping, Their Character Art, and Who Plays Them

In Critical Role Campaign 4, the characters will be divided into three groups: the Soldiers, the Seekers, and the Schemers. In short, the soldiers are “are the people who are interested in a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven story mode—where the non-violent answers were few and far between.” The Seekers are “people that tie directly into lore, cosmology, magic, big questions around problems facing this universe that are in the weave of the dance between divinity and arcane, and magic, and demons, and fairies, and dragons, and these big kinds of questions. It’s very classical fantasy.” And the Schemers are into “intrigue, espionage, skullduggery, and relationships with each other and other NPCs and instituations and the machinations of power. Their adventuring looks like cloak and dagger.”

We believe that the Soldiers will wear orange/red. The Seekers will wear blues and purples. And the Schemers will wear teal/green. Though even after the first episode of Critical Role Campaign 4, we still don’t officially know who fits into which group.

Who Does Matt Mercer Play in Critical Role Campaign 4?

Critical Role/Loren Hontanilla

Matt Mercer plays Sir Julien Davinos in Critical Role Campaign 4. Sir Julien Davinos is a human fighter/rogue.

What Does Matt Mercer’s Critical Role Campaign 4 Character Look Like & What Weapons Does He Carry?

In Critical Role Campaign 4, Sir Julien is described as being approximately 30 years old, with a lanky, compact build. He wears the leather military uniform of House Davinos, a Vassel House to the noble Sundered House of Royce. He has long, heavily curly black hair that reaches past his shoulders.

Matt Mercer’s character is clearly one of the nobility, but he is from a lower class of nobles. His chosen weapon is a rapier that he wears on his hip. And one of the chief hallmarks of Sir Julien Davinos’ look is the intricate metal gauntlet of dark silver that he wears on his left hand. It is made of multiple, deeply filigreed plates, and almost unbalances the rest of his form with its heft. No doubt this gauntlet that Matt Mercer’s character wears will prove a narrative part of Sir Julien’s existence.

Sir Julien Davinos’ Personality, Relationships, and History

Personality-wise, Sir Julien Davinos can be at times stoic and quite removed, but also prone to being snarky and somewhat rude. Critical Role Campaign 4 reveals to us that Matt Mercer’s character is seen as a war hero, having defeated the storied rebel Thjazi Fang in the name of the nobility who opposed him. But that glory appears to be fading with time. Sir Julien Davinos is the childhood friend of Lady Aranessa, the widow of Thjazi Fang, and is training the son of Thaisa Lloy to be a soldier. (Much to her chagrin.) It’s clear that Sir Julien HATED the late-Thjazi.

It seems that Sir Julien Davinos has some ties to the fae realm of Faerie.

Who Does Travis Willingham Play in Critical Role Campaign 4?

Travis Willingham will Play Teor Pridesire in Critical Role Campaign 4
Critical Role/Loren Hontanilla

Travis Willingham plays Teor Pridesire in Critical Role Campaign 4. Teor Pridesire is a Lion-Man Paladin. We believe Travis Willingham’s character will be part of the Seekers in Critical Role Campaign 4, but he might potentially be one of the Soldiers as well.

What Does Travis Willingham’s Critical Role Campaign 4 Character Look Like?

Appearance-wise, Teor Pridesire is a tall, powerfully built Lion-Man, with dark silver fur that comes from his head to his shoulders. He wears the golden breastplate of a Vanguard Marshal, purple vestments, and a cape. Importantly, Travis Willingham’s character leaves his feet uncovered, as is the way of his kind. He has a tattoo on his arm and braids in his mane.

Teor Pridesire’s Personality, Relationships, and History

We learn in Critical Role Campaign 4 that Teor Pridesire served in the Falconer’s Rebellion, an important rebellion in the history of Aramán, alongside the heroic rebel Thjazi Fang. Since his golden days in the uprising, he hasn’t found a place to settle. He now travels with the Orcish commander Loza Blade, a mighty yet ancient warrior, and they take on odd jobs defending people.

Travis Willingham’s Critical Role Campaign 4 character refers to himself as “a soldier and a mercenary, not a politician… A person who knows war.” Teor Pridesire is constantly scanning his surroundings, a slightly paranoid habit of war he can’t let go of.

Teor fought with Azune Nayar when Azune was young and commanded him in the rebellion.

Teor Pridesire’s Brother

Teor Pridesire has a brother, Sid or Talsidime, who was working to save Thjazi Fang from execution. But Sid disappeared before he could do his part to help. No doubt, finding Sid will be a big part of the plot for Travis Willingham’s character in Critical Role Campaign 4.

Who Does Laura Bailey Play in Critical Role Campaign 4?

Laura Bailey will play Thimble in Critical Role Campaign 4
Critical Role/Loren Hontanilla

Laura Bailey plays Thimble in Critical Role Campaign 4. Thimble seems like she belongs to the Schemers group if her grin is anything to go by. Thimble is a Pixie Rogue.

As a pixie, Thimble is very small, only about four inches tall. She’s almost 18 and has bright spring-green wings and favors wearing dark green. Her two swords are called The Needles. Although she is small and delicate, don’t cross Thimble because she’s incredibly powerful. In Critical Role Campaign 4 episode one, we learn that Thimble killed at least three assassins sent to kill her. Thimble hails from the land of Fairie, but has spent most of her life travelling with Thjazi Fang. They were partners in everything before Thjazi‘s death. On their last adventure, Thjazi and Thimble stole a powerful artifact, the Stone of Night Song, which perhaps they ought not to have done.

Who Does Taliesin Jaffe Play in Critical Role Campaign 4?

Taliesin Jaffe will play Bolaire Lathalia in Critical Role Campaign 4
Critical Role/Loren Hontanilla

Taliesin Jaffe plays Bolaire Lathalia in Critical Role Campaign 4. If you ask us, Bolaire Lathalia is Jigsaw from the Saw movies, OR perhaps a changeling warlock, we’ll take either. For now, we can only confirm the warlock part of it. Taliesin Jaffe’s character looks to be part of the Soldiers in Critical Role Campaign 4, but might also be one of the Seekers.

Bolaire seems best described as a kind of socialite, a character who craves to be the center of attention, hates to blend in, and throws an excellent party. We’d say Bolaire is one of the nobility. Their clothes are fine, but not too rich, ostentatious even when they try not to be. Despite this streak of vanity, Bolaire appears to have a good heart and genuinely cares for those around them. Bolaire has curly red hair.

Of course, the most defining part of Taliesin Jaffe’s character is Bolaire Lathalia’s mask. The mask Bolaire wears is made of grey clay, with dark grey, almost black lips, and vast, empty pools of blackness where each eye should be. There’s a cut on each side of the mask that indicates perhaps tears running down Bolaire’s face. And deep within the black pools, there’s just a tiny blue reflected light within, and that’s what blinks instead of the mask. Bolaire’s mask, however, does sigh and move by itself just like a real face. We don’t yet know all the secrets and powers of Bolaire Lathalia’s mask, but we feel sure we’ll find out as Critical Role Campaign 4 continues.

Bolaire appears to be linked to some kind of museum and possesses knowledge of arcane artifacts.

Who Does Ashley Johnson Play in Critical Role Campaign 4?

Ashley Johnson will play Vaelus in Critical Role Campaign 4
Critical Role/Loren Hontanilla

Ashley Johnson plays Vaelus in Critical Role Campaign 4. Vaelus is an Elf Paladin. Ashley Johnson’s character looks like they belong to the crew of Seekers in Critical Role Campaign 4, but could also be one of the Soldiers.

Vaelus is an incredibly tall woman, dressed from head to toe in black leather armor and robes. She wears a black hood, and a mourning veil of chainmail is draped over her elven ears. In the barely visible parts of her face, there are gashes, scars, and burns from arcane magic. She carries a sensor that has smoke coming out of it, but we don’t yet know the full power of this item.

Ashley Johnson’s Critical Role Campaign 4 character, Vaelus, is one of the Sisters of Selendry, a member of those who worshipped the now-fallen goddess of life and the shaper of the elves. Vaelus has come to Thjazi Fang‘s funeral to reclaim an elven artifact stolen by Thjazi, the Stone of Night Song. The Stone of Night Song, we learn, is a powerful artifact that helps elves travel to the afterlife painlessly. Vaelus hails from a place called The Mournveil. As an elf, Vaelus does not seem to have a strong understanding of human emotions and attachments.

Who Will Liam O’Brien Play in Critical Role Campaign 4?

CRITICAL ROLE CAMPAIGN 4: Every New Character & Their Actor_3
Critical Role/Loren Hontanilla

Liam O’Brien will play Halandil Fang in Critical Role Campaign 4. Halandil Fang is a future Tusk Love cover model and/or/plus an orc bard. We love him already. We bet Liam O’Brien’s character joins the Soldiers in Critical Role Campaign 4. He is giving Chris Pine in the Dungeons & Dragons movie.

Chiefly, we understand Halandil Fang to be a sweet, older-orc gentleman. He tends toward the positive and wants nothing more than to create community and build a place for peace, friendship, and gatherings. His life has been dedicated to his craft: words, plays, and instruments. And he has avoided war, although his brother, Thjazi Fang, was the leader of a great rebellion. For years, he had wanted nothing more than to own his own theater, but now that he had achieved that dream, it came at the time of his greatest heartbreak: the death of his brother.

Halandil Fang’s most important connection is clearly to his now-executed brother Thjazi Fang. We feel certain the death of his brother will drive Halandil out of his theater and into action. Halandil also has a daughter, Shadiya, with Thaisha Lloy, as well as a child with at least one other human woman. Go off, Halandil!

Who Does Marisha Ray Play in Critical Role Campaign 4?

CRITICAL ROLE CAMPAIGN 4: Every New Character & Their Actor_4
Critical Role/Loren Hontanilla

Marisha Ray plays Murray Mag’nesson in Critical Role Campaign 4. Murray Mag’nesson is a dwarven wizard or maybe a bard. We’d bet that Marisha Ray’s character will join the Schemers.

Murray Mag’nesson has a cowgirl kind of energy to her in Critical Role Campaign 4. We get the impression that she’s not too concerned with who she’s hanging out with or where. She seems the type to be locked into the seedy underbelly of whatever places she’s in, and not all her dealings are savory. Marisha Ray’s character is a little grimy and a little greasy, but endearing. Murray wears a long duster jacket without sleeves (because she hates sleeves), and it looks like she walked into a rich person’s room, picked up their rug, and made a jacket out of it. She’s not afraid of color, and she loves to show off her proudest asset, “her big old rack.” As is common with Dwarven women, Murray has a beard, a perfectly braided chin strap.

On the top of Murray’s finger, there’s something like the tip of an ink pen or quill—and we bet there’s more to the story there. She also has three of her teeth replaced with gemstones: a ruby, quartz, and a purple quartz.

Who Will Sam Riegel Play in Critical Role Campaign 4?

Sam Riegel will play Wicander Halovar in Critical Role Campaign 4
Critical Role/Loren Hontanilla

Sam Riegel plays Wicander Halovar in Critical Role Campaign 4, also known as “Wick.” Wicander Halovar is a Cleric, part of the “Candescent Creed,” a new kind of religion which his family, House Halovar, is epousing. Sam Reigel’s character will most likely be a Schemer if his outfit has anything to say about it.

Wicandar is a man who is tall in his own mind, but really about 5’11”. He’s about 28 or 30 years old and has pearlescent shimmering face tattoos. He carries with him a cane that holds the symbol of the Candescent Creed. Wicandar thinks he’s very charming… but he really puts his foot in his mouth quite a bit. As a noble of the Sundered House of Halovar, Wicander or Wick is a bit out of touch with most of the other characters around him. His family is also actually responsible for the execution of Thjazi Fang. Wick appears well-meaning, but bad at life. And his sheltered upbringing blinds him to some truths of the world.

Sam Riegel’s character Wick is a “Light Priest” charged with the care of a demon, Tyranny, an Aspirant of the Candescent Creed whom his family is purporting to “bring to the light.” But that’s going about as well as expected. He also agrees to hire Teor Pridesire at the beginning of Critical Role Campaign 4. We’ll see how that relationship unfolds.

Who Does Luis Carazo Play in Critical Role Campaign 4?

Luis Carazo play Azune Nayar in Critical Role Campaign 4
Critical Role/Loren Hontanilla

Luis Carazo plays Azune Nayar in Critical Role Campaign 4. Azune Nayar is a human paladin/sorcerer and definitely a Soldier.

Azune is a proud human soldier; he’s an Arcane Marshal who serves the city of Dol-Makjar, even though he doesn’t seem to agree with the current rulers of the place. It turns out that Azune is also a sorcerer. We stan. Although Azune Nayar is only about 5’10”—he has a much taller presence. He’s strong, lean, and muscular with auburn hair in a braid and a birthmark that goes up much of his face. His eyes are special, like the sunset over an ocean, with the bottom half of his iris a deep blue and pupils that are yellow, like a sunburst. He has a tattoo that says “Have mercy on those I send you.”

We learn in Critical Role Campaign 4‘s early episodes that Azune Nayar fought in the revolution under Thjazi Fang and also Teor Pridesire. Luis Carazo’s Critical Role Campaign 4 character also has an interesting trinket on his person, a necklace that holds a small child’s bracelet at the end with which he can summon a spectral form to help defend himself from trouble. What other powers Azune’s necklace holds, we have yet to discover.

Ultimately, Azune seems a serious and honorable type, loyal to those whom he respects. It feels like Azune seeks, above all, justice.

Who Does Robbie Daymond Play in Critical Role Campaign 4?

Robbie Daymond will play Kattigan Vale in Critical Role Campaign 4
Critical Role/Loren Hontanilla

Robbie Daymond plays Kattigan Vale in Critical Role Campaign 4. Kattigan Vale is a human ranger. We’re into his vibes. And, of course, we love his wolf, Wulfric, on sight. We’re also into Robbie Daymond’s character seemingly being a Seeker.

Kattigan Vale is a man who has lived a hard life from the start, and it’s clear that time has taken its toll on him. He’s strong, but beginning to wane past his peak of physical prowess. Despite that, he cuts an imposing figure, a tall and hulking form. Everything about him feels scavenged but purposeful; there’s a wildness to his presence. But he does seem to give in to the vice of drinking too much, which undercuts his purposeful strength. Ultimately, Kattigan is a fierce warrior and a good man. It’s clear he loves his wolf Wulfric very much.

Who Does Aabria Iyengar Play in Critical Role Campaign 4?

Aabria Iyengar will play Thaisha Lloy in Critical Role Campaign 4
Critical Role/Loren Hontanilla

Aabria Iyengar plays Thaisha Lloy in Critical Role Campaign 4. Thaisha Lloy is an orc druid. Aabria Iyengar’s character looks like she’ll be part of the Soldiers in Critical Role Campaign 4.

Thaisha Lloy is an iconic character in Critical Role Campaign 4. This orcish druid is also a member of Dol-Makjar’s nobility. The Lloy family is an important one in the city. She is the mother of Shadiya alongside Halandil Fang and worked intensely to try to save Thjazi Fang from his execution. Aabria Iyengar’s Thaisha Lloy takes no nonsense and is fiercely protective of those she loves. She can make flowers, especially jasmine, grow at will. She can also summon a spirit of nature, a deer named Halla, to be her wild companion and assist her as the situation calls for it. Thaisha loves Halandil Fang very much, though they are not clearly involved romantically. Thaisha also has a son who has been lost to her, who is now training to be a soldier with Julien Davinos, much to her dismay.

Thaisha has desaturated green skin and curly long hair. Her fingers are red and black at the tips. Her druidic connections mean she doesn’t age.

Who Will Whitney Moore Play in Critical Role Campaign 4?

Whitney Moore will play Tyranny in Critical Role Campaign 4
Critical Role/Loren Hontanilla

Whitney Moore will play Tyranny in Critical Role Campaign 4. Tyranny is a Demon Warlock, however sweet. We feel like Tyranny is absolutely a Schemer.

Tyranny is a demon through and through, whatever the Candescent Creed wants to turn her into. She smells like warm chocolate chip cookies laced with sulfur (you’ll smell her before you see her), has bubblegum skin, white hair, and HORNS. She also has adorable goat ears, yellow goat eyes, a forked tongue, and the tendency to bleat. We love her.

Whitney Moore’s Tyranny is an Aspirant of the Candescent Creed who serves Light priest Wikandar Halovar. But her conversion to the light is only going so/so because she likes to swear, drink, and well, be a demon. Tyranny and Wick are an absolutely hilarious odd couple and we can’t wait to see more of them.

Who Does Alex Ward Play in Critical Role Campaign 4?

Alexander Ward will play Occtis Tachonis in Critical Role Campaign 4

Alex Ward plays Occtis Tachonis in Critical Role Campaign 4. Occtis Tachonis is a human necromancer. We bet that Alex Ward’s character will be a Seeker based on their mystical-looking pets. These cuties, one of whom is called Pin, could be his familiars or maybe homunculi.

Poor Occtis is small in height and small in presence. He’s a noble, of the house Tachonis, but pretty far away from being anyone important. He’s very anxious and kind of awkward. Occtis never quite knows what to do with himself, but he does have some amount of arcane knowledge. We love that his fox Pin has made friends with Kattigan’s wolf, Wulfric.
