CREED Fan Edit Generates Nearly 30 Percent Uptick in Viewership

If you’re active on TikTok, chances are you’ve probably encountered a fan edit before. Typically set to popular music and swift transitions, these quick montages compile clips from TV or Film and have grown immensely popular online. Some studios, such as Lionsgate, are even hopping on the bandwagon by integrating these viral videos into their marketing strategy. Let’s be real, we all saw the iconic Josh Hutcherson “Whistle” edit. Creed, the renowned boxing movie starring Michael B. Jordan, is reaping the benefits as one viral fan edit increased viewership by 29 percent. Truly wild. Check it out.

The clip opens with a memorable scene from the film when a stranger refers to Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) as “Baby Creed,” to which Creed responds by delivering a mean right hand. The video then transitions into other quick highlights and clips from the movie. Garnering more than 19 million likes and 200 million views, the edit exploded on TikTok, now dubbed by many as “THE Creed edit.”

The video’s success compelled nearly 30 percent more people to watch Creed. That’s a pretty impressive statistic if you ask me. Why do fan edits tend to do so well, you may ask? Maybe it’s because our generation is chronically online and eats up any quick, entertaining nugget of media we can get our hands on. No need to convince me, I get it. I have absolutely fallen victim to my fair share of popular fan edits. Whatever the reason, it definitely worked in Creed‘s favor.
