Del Toro’s FRANKENSTEIN Drops ICONIC First-Look at Monster

By all accounts, Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein has shaped up to be amazing. And ultimately, at the heart of this story is the Monster. In our exclusive sneak-peek at the upcoming behind-the-scenes book Art and Making of Frankenstein (which you can snag here today), Del Toro shared that he wanted to make his Monster more human than human in his movie. He wanted to destroy the gulf between Us and the Other. We’ll have to wait and see how that journey goes in full. But what we won’t have to wait to see is an up-close look at Jacob Elordi’s Monster from the Frankenstein movie. We have to say, he looks good. And by today’s standards, like a perfectly excellent Monster. He’s not even that monstrous, in the end. We don’t even think he needs a hear me out. Before today, we only caught glimpses of Elordi’s Frankenstein’s Monster, but now, he’s full frontal. You can meet Guillermo del Toro’s Monster below in this Frankenstein first-look image.

Like we said, Guillermo del Toro’s vision of Frankenstein‘s Monster looks incredible to us. The practical and makeup effects used to transform Jacob Elordi into this creature are 10/10. According to Variety, “Elordi’s full body prosthetics used 42 pieces, with 14 pieces on his head and neck.” And Frankenstein used “54 prosthetic silicon pieces” to create the creature in full. Each application of the full-body prosthetics took 10 hours, and the movie applied them 50 times! Additionally, prosthetic artist Mike Hill shares of his vision for Elordi’s Monster in Frankenstein: “What we were trying to do was almost put the inside of a human body up on the outside for all to see. That’s why the veins are shown as clear as they are.”

We also admire the gumption of sharing a clear image of the Monster before del Toro’s Frankenstein is fully out in the world. Other movies might have played this reveal close to their chests, keeping fans curious about what exactly Elordi will look like when they finally see him appear as the Creature. But Del Toro’s Frankenstein knows that a good movie doesn’t need a gimmick, a twist, or a reveal. If it’s good, it’s good, and seeing Elordi as Frankenstein’s Monster before we get to see the movie won’t change that. We approve.

Alongside Elordi’s Monster, you can check out new images of the rest of the Frankenstein cast above, including Oscar Isaac, Mia Goth, Felix Kammerer, and Christoph Waltz.

Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein is now playing in select theaters. It will release on Netflix on November 7. We can’t wait to see Elordi and the rest of the cast in action when it does.
