The most iconic of all midnight movies, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, turns 50 years old this year. And it has been showing in movie theaters almost perpetually ever since. Now, Bit Bot Media is launching a Kickstarter campaign for a new graphic novel continuing the world of the original musical Rocky Horror Show. Writer Magdalene Visaggio and artist Noemi Vettori are teaming up with Bit Bot Media for the first officially licensed Rocky Horror graphic novel, Bride of Rocky Horror.
As part of the Kickstarter campaign for Bride of Rocky Horror, Bit Bot will release plush figures of Dr. Frank N. Furter, and his hunky creation, Rocky. You can check them both out in our gallery below:
In this new continuation, seven years have passed since that fateful night at the Frankenstein Place. Former lovebirds Brad and Janet’s lives have taken an ominous turn, pulling them back into a world of madness. And presumably, sexy hijinks. Bride of Rocky Horror will be a full-color, 95-page extravaganza, an official continuation of the original stage play. Here’s what writer Magdalene Visaggio had to say about creating an official sequel to a classic:
Rocky Horror is one of my favorite stories of all time. It was the safest queer art I had access to when I was young because my parents were both huge fans. So to get the chance to look beyond it and see how it could have played out once that fateful night ended was a dream come true. I tried to make something as personal and idiosyncratic as O’Brien’s original, riffing off the themes that stood out to me the same way O’Brien was riffing on his childhood influences. I think me and Noemi have made something really unique.
