If you need a delicious sandwich and drink in a place that feels super cozy and familiar, Central Perk will be there for you soon. The infamous cafe spot from Friends has had pop-ups in the past, but now a permanent location is coming to New York City’s Times Square. And, after months of fan anticipation and waiting, there’s finally a confirmation that the Central Perk Coffeehouse will open up December 12.
The location, which came to life thanks to the genius of the architect team Glen & Co., is at 20 Times Square, which is at the NE corner of 7th Avenue and 47th Street. It honestly feels like the perfect time for Friends magic considering the city will be in full holiday swing. This cafe will deliver some nostalgic touches from the beloved sitcom while honoring the modern energy of the greatest city in the world. The Central Perk cafe menu, curated and developed under the direction of Top Chef and James Beard Award–winning chef Tom Colicchio, will have food and beverage items inspired by Friends as well as location specific creations.
Here are two signature items that will be available for the NYC opening:
- The One with NYC Matcha, a layered iced matcha latte blended with oat milk, featuring rich strawberry purée, and topped with a savory cream cheese cold foam. When mixed, it evokes the flavors of strawberry-matcha cheesecake.
- NY Relaxi Taxi Tall Iced Cooler playfully references a common directive amongst the characters to “relax.” Made with half lemonade and half iced green tea, brightened with lavender syrup, and finished with sparkling water and a lemon wheel for a taxi-yellow accent, it’s an antidote to the hustle and bustle of Times Square.
Yummmm. And, Colicchio has created a sandwich dubbed The Tribbani in honor of Joey. It includes freshly sliced prosciutto, soppressata, capicola, cotta, coppa, and provolone, layered with lettuce, giardiniera, olive oil, and vinegar on semolina hero bread. The vibes are truly giving New York.
“For me, food has always been about bringing people together, and that’s exactly what Central Perk represents,” said Tom Colicchio, Top Chef and James Beard Award–winning chef. “Having the opportunity to help guide the menu for such an iconic concept in the middle of New York City is a thrill — ‘The Tribbiani’ nods to the world of Friends while standing proudly as a sandwich New Yorkers will both respect and crave every day.”
Central Perk Coffeehouse will offer fans exclusive new merch that you can only get at this Times Square location. And, just like the Boston location, visitors can enjoy Central Perk Coffee Co.’s six original coffee blends, which are also available online. So get ready to grab a cup of matcha and soak up all the ‘90s goodness when Central Perk Coffeehouse invites you in on December 12.
