GOOD LUCK, HAVE FUN, DON’T DIE Trailer Looks Trippy and Timely

It’s been nearly a decade since director Gore Verbinski’s last film, A Cure for Wellness. The creator behind some of Hollywood’s biggest hits of the 2000s, like the first three Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Rango, and The Ring, has been lying low for a bit. But now he’s back, and with a new high-concept, R-rated science fiction film, that seems to be tackling the anxieties of our modern world, and our fraught relationship with technology, in Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die. You can watch the trippy trailer for the new sci-fi comedy, starring Sam Rockwell, right here:

Sam Rockwell portrays a man who says he comes from a dystopian future. He takes the patrons of an iconic Los Angeles diner hostage in search of unlikely recruits, all in a quest to save the world from an out of control AI. In short, it sure sounds very timely. In addition to Same Rockwell, Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die also stars Haley Lu Richardson (Split), Michael Peña (Ant-Man) Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2), Asim Chaudhry (Black Mirror), Tom Taylor, and Juno Temple (Venom: The Last Dance). The screenplay for the film comes from Matthew Robinson, who wrote The Invention of Lying and Monster Trucks.

Judging from the trailer, Verbinski seems to be going for a bit of a modern Terry Gilliam vibe. We see elements of Brazil, among some other classic Gilliam films. And we are definitely here for it. Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die premiered at this past year’s Fantastic Fest to mainly positive reviews. Some have even compared it to Everything, Everywhere, All At Once. And many cited it as a solid return to form for Gore Verbinski. We would consider that high praise indeed. Coming from Briarcliff Entertainment, Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die arrives in theaters everywhere on February 13.
