The cast for Paramount Pictures’s upcoming adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi’s Children of Blood and Bone is reason enough to be excited for the movie. But it turns out getting to see images of how the studio will bring the 2018 Afro-fantasy novel to life is an even better reason to be hyped. Paramount has released its first batch of photos from the film, and they are absolutely stunning.
This initial collection of official images from Children of Blood and Bone introduce the magical world of Orïsha to those who haven’t read Adeyemi’s book. If you’re unfamiliar with the novel and why these photos only hint at the journey that awaits its young hero, here’s the film’s official synopsis:
In the epic fantasy world of Orïsha, a young woman goes on a quest to reclaim the magic that was violently stolen from her people. She and her brother ally with the daughter and son of the king to fight back against his brutal rule.
Children of Blood and Bone comes from director Gina Prince-Bythewood (The Woman King, The Old Guard). She also co-wrote the script with Adeyemi. And it really does boast some of Hollywood’s best. It stars Thuso Mbedu as Zélie. Joining her are Viola Davis, Regina King, Idris Elba, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Cynthia Erivo. (Told you!) It also features Damson Idris, Amandla Stenberg, Tosin Cole, Lashana Lynch, Zackary Momoh, and Richard Mofe-Damijo.
While these photos make the film’s January 15, 2027 feel even further away than it already did, they do portend a trailer sooner than later. And considering we were excited just by knowing who will appear in the film and that still images, we’re hyped for how hyped the first trailer will have us feeling.
