It’s a gift to watch Patrick Stewart play Jean-Luc Picard again in Star Trek: Picard. The series, currently in its second season, definitely has Star Trek: The Next Generation vibes. We’ve seen familiar faces pop up in the show so far, including William T. Riker and Guinan. And now, for Star Trek: Picard‘s third and final season, a whole host of Next Generation cast members are returning. Basically all of our favorite faces will come back. The returning cast members include LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Jonathan Frakes, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis, and Brent Spiner. It’s a Star Trek: The Next Generation reunion in Star Trek: Picard!
You can hear all your favorites in the announcement video below.
Paramount shared this news in celebration of First Contact Day. April 5, 2063, is the day that humans first make contact with Vulcans. Season three showrunner and executive producer Terry Matalas said in a statement:
“I remember watching the premiere of Star Trek: The Next Generation almost 34 years ago with my father like it was yesterday. It was the spark that ignited my love for science fiction. So, it’s most fitting that the story of Jean-Luc Picard ends honoring the beginning, with his dearest and most loyal friends from the U.S.S. Enterprise. It would be an understatement to say that giving these characters a proper send-off is an honor. The entire Star Trek: Picard team and I can’t wait for fans to experience this final, high-stakes, starship-bound adventure in season three!”
We can’t wait to see all our old friends return for a final adventure in season three (which we’ve known would be the final season). But we need to finish season two first. Right now, Picard and his cohorts are stuck in their past. They traveled to Los Angeles in 2024 to try to prevent some terrible action from destroying their future. None other than Q caused their desperate trip through time—a trip that seems likely to leave some members of Picard’s crew behind. But from the announcement video, it sounds like Picard needs help and knows he can call upon his old friends.
Season two of Star Trek: Picard is currently airing. New episodes drop on Paramount+ on Thursdays.
