Once again, Michael B. Jordan is having a great year. Honestly, it seems every year of his life would be great considering he’s rich, famous, and frustratingly handsome. But in 2025, Jordan teamed up with director Ryan Coogler for yet another cinematic smash with Sinners. And, he also received a prestigious American Cinematheque Award to honor his decades long career. We appreciate him for his memorable roles, especially in nerdy things like Black Panther, but we really love him because he’s one of us. It is no secret that he’s a big ole nerd who loves anime. And, in a recent video, Michael B. Jordan explained My Hero Academia to a couple of fellow actors.
The Vanity Fair segment featured Jordan, Austin Butler, and Paul Mescal coming together to check out viral videos. Of course, Jordan pulls up a video from My Hero Academia season seven where Bakugo seems to die during a fight against Shigaraki and the League of Villains. While Paul Mescal looks intrigued but also confused, Butler quickly notes that this clip is quite the spoiler for someone like him who has never watched the show. This clip is a very good indication of the chemistry we can expect between Austin Butler and Michael B. Jordan in the upcoming Miami Vice remake.
Michael B. Jordan laughs because, well, Austin is not wrong here. He goes on to do a high-level description of the anime and touches on its major themes of friendship and self-sacrifice.
Anime is just a huge part of Jordan’s personal and professional life. He modeled the fight scenes in Creed 3 after Hajime no Ippo. And, during a previous questions video with Vogue, Jordan said that Tokyo is one of his favorite places in the world because of anime. We’d certainly sit down for a chat and to watch some anime with Michael B. Jordan any day of the week.
